Treatment saved your life. For many survivors, it also changed what your body can do — including the ability to carry a pregnancy.
If you're a cancer survivor exploring parenthood, you're not alone in not knowing where to start — many survivors don't realize surrogacy is still an option until well after treatment ends, sometimes years later.

You May Not Know This Is Still Possible
Fertility is rarely the first thing discussed during a cancer diagnosis — survival is. That means many survivors leave treatment without ever being told what their options for parenthood actually look like afterward.
Whether you're newly in remission or years past treatment, it's worth knowing: surrogacy remains a real, viable path to having a biological child, regardless of your relationship status, or gender.
What Your Path Might Look Like
Your specific path depends heavily on one thing: whether you preserved eggs or embryos before or during treatment.
-
If you preserved eggs or embryos before treatment, those can often still be used to create embryos for a gestational surrogate to carry
-
If you weren't able to preserve your biology before treatment, or treatment affected your remaining fertility, donor eggs or donor sperm can be used instead to create embryos
-
Either way, a gestational surrogate carries the pregnancy — meaning your own health and treatment history don't need to include a pregnancy for you to become a parent
A planning conversation early on is the fastest way to understand exactly where you stand and what your realistic options are, rather than guessing based on someone else's story.
