What is surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a path to parenthood where a woman — called a gestational surrogate — carries and delivers a baby for someone who can't carry a pregnancy themselves.
In gestational surrogacy (the only kind Giving Tree facilitates), the surrogate has no genetic connection to the baby. The embryo is created through IVF using the intended parents' own egg and sperm, or donor genetics, and transferred to the surrogate to carry. She's the home for the pregnancy — not the biological parent.
